What is an OLED TV?

There are a handful of different types of TV displays to choose from and as they have evolved over the past few years, it can be difficult to tell which one is worth upgrading to. Let's take OLED for example, many weren't sure if these TVs would popular yet some now call them one of the best available! But what makes them stand out from the rest?

Well if you're wondering whether a new OLED TV is right for you let us help you in this mini guide with all you need to know!

Let's start with the basics: OLED stands for Organic Light-Emitting Diode and what this means is that behind the TV screens they have individual organic cells which emit their own light.

What are the advantages of OLED TVs?

  • The screens are lighter and ultra thin as no backlight is needed to make the colours more visible.
  • They have a wide viewing range to display the best picture wherever you're sitting.
  • Unlike the standard LED TV, OLEDs can display deeper blacks and vibrant colours to create better, more realistic pictures!
  • As each pixel can light up and switch off independently, they are able to produce a stronger contrast to make the focus stand out.

How much do OLED TVs cost?

OLEDs can be more expensive compared to the LED TV and with good reason: you are paying for the better quality. They are slowly getting cheaper but for now the prices start at around £1,500 for LG and £2,000+ for Panasonic, Sony and Loewe.
